Financial Aid Counseling

Student Guidance

Nearly 90% of Towers High School students receive free or reduced lunch and more than 90% of our students are elligible for Pell Grants. Paying for college is often the biggest barrier for our students. Showing students how they can finance their own college educations is a key lever in making college a reality for our students. Using Pell Grants, the Hope Scholarship and work study, our students truly have the opportunity to graduate from college with minimal debt and without straining tight family budgets.

Our support begins with Financial Aid workshops that break down the differences between loans, grants and scholarships, introduce FAFSA, explain the importance of work-study and demonstrate the process for applying for institution-based scholarships. We also provide students with connections to scholarship-giving organizations and guidance throughout the application process.

Parental Guidance

Most of our students will be the first in their family to go to, and graduate from college. For many parents, this is the first time that they will complete FAFSA with one of their children. We recognize the real barriers that exist (lack of internet access at home, tedious forms, complicated instructions) and provide support for parents as they complete FAFSA. Each year we hold Evening FAFSA Work Sessions for parents, during which we open Towers computer labs in the evening for parents to complete FAFSA and serve as guides through the process.
